Girls and women continue to face barriers in their STEAM interests, education, and career aspirations. There are evidence-based approaches that our institutions can use to help influence and counteract these barriers and which will also build confidence and self-efficacy in girls and women. This collaborative session from three institutions (CAGIS, Ingenium, and TWOSE) will provide examples of programs that are successfully supporting girls’ interest in STEAM, share research related to barriers that girls and women face as well as approaches to supporting girls’ interest in STEAM, and inspire participants with ideas, approaches, toolkits and resources that they can use to enhance their own efforts.
Participants will get to break out into groups that will get to explore these activities and then use them to collaborate, design and test out how these can be adapted to programming at their own institutions. All participants will leave the session with an action plan that their institution can use increase confidence in girls and women when it comes to STEAM.
